Join our team as a Build Prep Technician!
The Build Prep Technician is responsible for the preparation of builds of customer parts and operation of additive manufacturing equipment utilizing CAD software, and ensuring high quality parts and on-time delivery of customer orders.
Tuesday - Saturday, 8am - 4:30pm
What you will do
- Prepare builds utilizing applicable CAD software, ensuring all build processes are completed.
- Follow and complete all procedures, work instructions, and checklists associated with the preparation of builds and operation of equipment.
- Analyze customer part designs, identify build risks, make necessary or requested modifications, and generate support structures when applicable.
- Ensure builds are accurately set-up and started on the appropriate machines.
- Effectively apply print parameters based on the material and machine being used, conducting print analysis when necessary.
- Take clear finishing pictures, with appropriate spots checks when necessary.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with other departments or teams like: Scheduling, Analysis, Machine Lab, Tech Ops, and Finishing.
- Assist in maintaining accurate build schedules and rescheduling builds or re-builds when necessary.
- May assist in build crash evaluations.
- Meet or exceed daily build quotas.
- Observe and follow all Protolabs Safety and Quality policies and procedures, including use of any required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed footwear, etc.) and safety/compliance training.
- Continually seek ways to improve work processes and individual performance.
What it takes
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with CAD and CAD software
- Must be able to visualize 3-D parts based on CAD data.
- Strong technical and computer aptitude.
- Experience with a Windows computing environment as well as the ability to learn custom software packages.
- Effective communication skills.
- Must demonstrate the ability to learn new techniques.
- Must be able to effectively follow instructions.
- Wear all required PPE (gloves, lab coats, etc.).
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

Protolabs offers a competitive total rewards package, and compensation mix vary based on position, such as base wage, as well as other earnings including incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, job function, work experience, specialized skills, training, education, and certifications.

Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Work Environment:
Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
